When we sleep, our throat and jaw muscles relax. This can cause the upper airways to partially close and narrow the passageway through which the air we breathe flows into the lungs. This narrowing causes the air in the throat to vibrate, which causes the familiar snoring sound. Snoring can also be caused by other factors, such as a specific shape of the nose or jaw, obesity, pregnancy, sleeping in a supine position and others.
The best results are achieved when the rail is adjusted as far as possible. This is done with the enclosed screwdriver, which provides millimetre-precise adjustment. The adjustment is usually done gradually over several days and weeks to allow the jaw to get used to it. As soon as the splint is perfectly adjusted for your jaw, the splint shows its full effect.
The splint works on the principle of advancing the lower jaw and thus the root of the tongue. It consists of two parts: a lower and an upper snore stopper splint. The two splints are connected with the help of a kind of special coupling that has a screwdriver. The two-part design and an enlarged opening in the lower part of the splint allow the mouth to be closed and the jaw to move forward. At the same time, lateral jaw movements are not restricted, which makes the splint particularly comfortable.
The anti-snoring splint is individually fitted to your teeth and jaw in just a few minutes using the proven boil-and-bite method. The possibility of individual fitting means that only one size is needed for everyone.
Yes, the adjustment is possible with millimetre precision. After using the snore stopper splint, you should relax your jaw by keeping your lips half open and making sure that the upper and lower dental arches do not touch. This position of the jaw is called the rest position. Memorise this position well so that you can repeat it after each use of the DR.RUSS® anti-snoring splint. If the jaw does not assume the rest position after using the splint, turn the front screw clockwise (jaw forward) with the screwdriver until the rest position is achieved.
The DR. RUSS® anti-snoring splint requires some patience, especially in the first few days of getting used to it. As it is an intraoral appliance comparable to braces for children, a certain period of habituation is required. For slow habituation and to normalise saliva production, the DR. RUSS® anti-snoring splint should initially be worn for a few hours during the day, for example while watching television. After a short time, wearing the anti-snoring splint becomes a habit and allows you to find a relaxing sleep. If the splint causes problems or is bothersome, you can move it backwards by turning the front screw anti-clockwise. Even with a good fit, you will usually need a week to get used to the splint and wear it all night.
The anti-snoring splint will last for many years if used properly and cleaned and cared for regularly. When not in use, the anti-snoring splint should be placed in the protective container provided for this purpose and not stored in the immediate vicinity of heat sources. For hygienic reasons, however, it is best to replace the splint from time to time.
The DR. RUSS® snore guard can be readjusted several times until it fits correctly and comfortably. Since possible changes in the geometry of the dental arch may require the snore stop splint to be readjusted, do not throw away the adjustment key. The shaping process can then be repeated.
If the anti-snoring splint does not fit perfectly, you can repeat the fitting. After using the anti-snoring splint, you should relax your jaw by keeping your lips half open and making sure that the upper and lower dental arches do not touch. This position of the jaw is called the rest position. If the jaw should become slack after using the DR. RUSS® snore stopper splint, you must turn the front screw clockwise with the screwdriver (jaw forward) until the rest position is achieved.
For thorough hygiene, separate the lower and upper tray daily and clean thoroughly with a soft toothbrush and normal toothpaste. To avoid staining, special products for cleaning the teeth can also be used. This will keep your snoring splint hygienically fresh and ready for use for a long time.
